The Gym

Sometimes I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels in the gym. No, I’m not wasting away the hours on the stationary bike. I’m, as they say, pumping iron.

My strength is up, for sure, and working put feels great, but … something … what is it. Maybe I need to do a different kind of workout. I heard that P90 thing is pretty good.

I don’t know what I need to do. Maybe one day some indoor rock climbing, the next swimming, the next a mad full-body mix at the gym, the next canoeing, the next something else.

Day 21

The weekend was too nice to spend it inside a gym, so I tossed the kid in the canoe and we headed up Indian Arm from Belcarra. This pic is Jug Island, just around the corner, and it was a wild ride. The big power boats were out and some of the wakes were huge. Combine that with passing by some small coves where the waves rebounded into a washing machine-like roller coaster and it was crazy fun.

On the way back the tide was coming in, so we barely made progress at one point where it narrowed. The flow was fast and fairly turbulent, so I had to put it into turbo mode to just move forward a few inches. Erik is awesome in the canoe, between telling me pirate stories and singing songs, he’s great self-entertaining ballast and I’m crazy happy that he loves to come with me.

MECca

How can I drive past MEC without stopping in to buy something?

I can’t.

I picked up some new comfy (fleece) pants for Erik, and two pairs of thick wool ski socks. He’ll love it.

Strangely I didn’t buy any caribiners. I always need more caribiners, big or small, shiny or matte, useful or not.
