This research article explores the interplay between smiles and situational contexts, investigating how each influences the other in social evaluations. Through two studies using dynamic facial expressions and background videos, the authors found that context significantly affects how smiles are perceived regarding genuineness, enjoyment, politeness, and superiority. Conversely, the research also demonstrates that smiles impact the assessment of situations, influencing their perceived positivity, enjoyableness, politeness, and competitiveness. Ultimately, the findings highlight a reciprocal relationship where facial cues and environmental information mutually shape social interpretations, suggesting a complex integration of cues in social perception.
